PLACEBO ROCK ASIA & AUSTRALIA

On the 20th March, PLACEBO concluded their recent Asian & Australian tour by playing to a packed Esplanade Complex in Bangkok, Thailand.
Prior to Saturday's show they visited, Malaysia, Taiwan, Indonesia, Singapore, Japan and braved sweltering temperatures in Australia.

During their visit PLACEBO managed to play a secret show for 300 fans in Sydney with MySpace as well as taking over several radio stations and TV shows, offering fans the chance to win exclusive signed merchandise and even the chance to fly to a show, meet the band and watch the show!

Below are some images of the tour, including a picture of the winners and DJ Andrew Roberts from Thailand radio station WAVE 88 with Steve, they won the chance to fly to the Singapore Fort Canning show.

The crowd shot is of the 8000+ fans who turned up in Bangkok.

The images of the band were taken in Taiwan.

Golden Ticket Winner - Dominic Meason

"It's a very rare occasion for anyone to have the opportunity to meet their favourite band and I was fortunate enough to be able to, after over a decade of listening to their music and buying every CD and DVD they've ever made, meet mine, PLACEBO. To start off with I found going to dinner and sitting down with the band to eat very surreal and daunting. But then we started talking and my nerves were eased. We chatted about the gig being a homecoming one for Stefan, the music industry and why I had chosen to come to a gig in Sweden. I also had a long chat with Fiona outside the dressing room about how she came to be in PLACEBO and she told me how much she was enjoying being on tour with the band and about the band's experience in Cambodia. Watching the band members prepare for the gig in the dressing room in their own different ways was interesting too, Brian and Stefan relaxing ready to burst onto the stage with Steve going through a mammoth exercise routine! I saw the set list before the gig and I knew it would be an amazing one; I wasn't disappointed. It was a completely new perspective watching the band from the side stage and I really enjoyed singing away right next to the band! I ended up on the balcony watching part of the gig too which also a different experience. Particular highlights for me being, Follow the Cops Back Home, Twenty Years, Special K and the Cambodian arrangement of Because I Want You. After the gig and the post gig soiree Steve invited us out for a few drinks in Stockholm with him and the support band Expatriate which was cool and Bill and Nick met up with us later in one of the bars. From the very beginning of the evening, the band, tour staff and Crew members were all very welcoming and really made me feel like one of the PLACEBO family. I had a weekend I will never forget in Stockholm and for that I must thank them all from the very bottom of my heart. Dominic Meason.

1st Golden Ticket Winner - Stefania Simonini

As you may have seen in Stefan's PLACEBO Summer 2009 Video Documentary, the first of the lucky 'Golden Ticket' winners got to claim their their prize recently!

Stefania Simonini from Italy, bought a copy of the Deluxe Box Set Edition of the new PLACEBO album 'Battle For The Sun' and inside found one of the 5 Golden Tickets!

Stefania choose to meet PLACEBO, have dinner with the band and watch their performance from side stage at the Italian Love Wave Festival on the 16th July 2009.

We asked her to let us know about her 'Golden' day with the band, and this is what she had to say:

"Meeting PLACEBO, was an experience which I define as the most beautiful thing that could have happened to me, it was so wonderful! Thank you for giving me the opportunity to meet the band that I have followed for over 6 years and I love so deeply.

At first I was very scared because I was afraid to disturb the band in any way, but to my great happiness placebo and all the members of the crew treated us with great kindness and understanding, so thank them deeply. I felt immediately at ease!

There are no words to describe the emotion I felt at meeting placebo for the first time. When I first saw them I even cried a little bit because I had dreamt of this moment so many times, that it didn’t seem true to me that they were so close!

Having dinner with PLACEBO was also fantastic, the guys were very friendly, and we talked a lot, then Brian asked me about what I wanted to do after I finished high school, then we spent almost all our time with them in the dressing room and we had photos with Brian, Stef and Steve!

The concert was fantastic, I sang the songs with all my voice and I have never been so excited, in their songs I always find a bit of myself! PLACEBO are very important for me, and have accompanied me for a long time, in dark moments where I felt the need for comfort, I love placebo because of that. They are the only band that always know how I feel.

Brian gives body and soul on that stage and his voice has accompanied me for a long time and will stay in my heart for all my life.

This was the most beautiful day in the world! thank you so much for this amazing prize!"

Hello Placeboworld!

Hello Placeboworld!

Now, if you've been in the crowd at any of our festival gigs so far you might have wondered 'who's that girl onstage?' so I thought I should introduce myself. The serious, sleevenote-reading fans among you will know that this is not my first involvement with Placebo because I wrote the string arrangements on the Meds album and also the Hotel Persona album. I joined the band in the studio in Toronto last summer to write the string arrangements for this new album, but the Angkor Wat concert in Cambodia was my first time performing live with Brian, Stef & Steve. It was a very special show in a beautiful environment and it was an honour to join the boys onstage. So, when they asked me to join them for the full tour this year the answer had to be YES!! And I'm absolutely loving it!! The festival crowds have been absolutely amazing so far, so thank you all for your support, I hope you enjoy the new record and I look forward to meeting some of you!

MTV Europe Music Awards 2009 - 'Best Alternative' Winners

They say 'Remember, Remember the 5th of November...' but in this case, not for the anniversary of one Guy Fawkes' doomed Gun Powder Plot, but as the night PLACEBO were triumphant at the MTV Europe Music Awards 2009 claiming their long overdue award in the 'Best Alternative' category.

As Brian proclaimed at the awards '...this is made even more touching, as it is voted for by the fans...' and to say thank you Stefan has created another of his is amazing Videos.

PLACEBO SUMMER 2009

In late September as the summer drew to a close, and the faces of fans in Reading and Leeds still showed the smiles of having watched PLACEBO’s final incredible festival performances of the summer, PLACEBO were packing their bags, about to embark on one final trans-Atlantic journey to play 2 very special shows in Mexico.

As a special surprise to all the fans who have followed the films of the band traversing the globe, watching through the eyes of the PLACEBO family, Stefan has completed his documentary with:

It is only just that the last word comes from our director and creator, Stefan Olsdal.

"Hey, just wanted to thank you all for coming out this summer and giving us some memorable nights! It was long, hot and sweaty... And thank you all for voting for us at the MTV Awards, you gave us a night to remember. Got to say we did feel quite pleased up there on the podium!!!

Since the autumn tour is up and running I want to take the opportunity to say a massive thanks to the French crowds who showed a lot of love!! We're excited about the show now with the little ShortsTV Film Festival and EXPATRIATE as support. We start the German leg today. Fahren wir, ja!!?

I hope you have enjoyed my little summer blogs. It was a journey for me, both personally and with the band to delve into sides of us people necessarily haven't seen before..!! I had fun doing them and tried to get as many of you as possible in there as well. You all know who you are!!! Some of you have asked if they'll be available somewhere else apart from online.
